Volunteer Terms of Service

First things first — thank you. Choosing to give your time to this work means a lot, and we don't take it lightly. We want volunteering with Rebel Led to feel good: worthwhile, flexible, and human. These terms are here to make sure we're on the same page, not to make things feel formal or stiff. This isn't a legal contract — it's a mutual commitment, freely given on both sides, and either of us can step back at any time.

1. About Us

Rebel Led Training & Consultancy CIC is a Black-led, Southwark-based social enterprise. We deliver creative health and community-led projects to build belonging, reduce inequalities, and amplify underrepresented voices. We're a small, passionate team and we work in an informal, people-first way — you won't find a lot of corporate here.

2. The Vibe: How We Work

We're not a traditional workplace, and we're proud of that. Our environment is relaxed, collaborative, and built on trust. We treat volunteers as valued members of the team, not as a spare pair of hands.

  • Volunteering with Rebel Led is unpaid and non-contractual — there's no obligation on either side.

  • We know life is busy. Time commitments are flexible and shaped around you — most roles involve around 8 hours a week, but we'll always work around what's realistic for you.

  • You'll never be made to feel bad for needing to adjust your hours or take a step back. Just talk to us.

3. What You Can Expect From Us

We'll always try to be organised, supportive, and straightforward. Specifically:

  • A clear role description and agreed tasks, so you always know what you're here to do.

  • A named contact person who's there for support, check-ins, and any questions.

  • A welcoming, inclusive environment where you can show up as your whole self.

  • Opportunities to gain real skills, exercise creativity and initiative, and see your ideas actually put into practice.

  • A clear, safe process for raising concerns if anything ever feels off (see Section 7).

4. Expenses — We've Got You

We firmly believe that nobody should be out of pocket for giving their time. Volunteering is already a generous thing to do — we won't add financial stress on top of it.

  • When you need to travel for your role, we will reimburse your travel costs according to our expenses policy. When reimbursement isn't possible, we'll always let you know in advance.

  • When volunteering involves a full or substantial session, we'll provide lunch or a meal contribution — because turning up hungry isn't fair on anyone.

  • Any other reasonable, pre-agreed out-of-pocket expenses can be reimbursed. Just keep your receipts and submit them monthly.

  • If you're ever unsure whether something will be covered, just ask before spending — we'd rather have that conversation upfront.

5. What We Ask of You

We keep this simple. We ask that you:

  • Show up with care and respect — for the people we work with, for the team, and for yourself.

  • Keep things confidential and follow our data protection guidelines.

  • Get familiar with our safeguarding, equality, and health & safety policies (we'll walk you through them).

  • Keep us in the loop if life gets in the way and you can't make it or need to pause.

6. Safeguarding & Conduct

We work with communities that include vulnerable people, so this section matters.

  • Rebel Led is committed to keeping everyone safe, and that includes our volunteers.

  • Discrimination, harassment, or unsafe behaviour of any kind won't be tolerated.

  • Some roles may require a DBS check or references — we'll always be upfront about this before you start.

7. If Something Isn't Right

We genuinely want this to be a positive experience. If something isn't working — whether it's your role, a relationship within the team, or anything else — please talk to us. Start with your named contact. If that's not possible, or the issue involves them, reach out directly at hello@rebelledequality.com. Nothing is too small to raise, and everything will be handled with care and confidentiality.

8. Flexibility Goes Both Ways

  • Either you or Rebel Led can end the volunteer arrangement at any time, no hard feelings and no notice required.

  • We may occasionally need to adapt roles as projects evolve — we'll always talk to you first and give as much notice as we can.

9. Your Personal Data

We'll only store the personal information needed to support your volunteering role, in line with UK GDPR. Your data won't be shared with anyone else without your consent. You can request access to or deletion of your data at any time — just email hello@rebelledequality.com.

10. Liability

  • Rebel Led holds appropriate insurance to cover volunteers during their duties.

  • We are not responsible for personal property lost or damaged while volunteering.
